Blue Mile questions : FAQ's

Who can take part?
Everyone! The Blue Mile is all about giving people the chance to set themselves a personal challenge, to raise money and to have fun. Individuals don’t have to be an Olympic Gold Medallist to do a mile. From swimming novices to kayaking pros - the Blue Mile will cater for everyone and literally anyone can get involved.

Do I need specialist equipment or training?
To compete an open water mile, you will need to be able to swim a mile in a pool (1500m) and complete a basic safety and medical check. There are a number of sports, so you will need to ensure you are competent with the equipment that you want to use in the event. If you are a new-comer to the sport, you will need to provide some evidence or certification that you have attained the level required to undertake the specific activity.

Where will the Blue Mile take place?
The inaugural event will take place in Plymouth on the 3rd-4th July 2010. We are consulting with other host cities across the UK and look forward to announcing some additional venues in the near future.

Is there a limit on entries and sports that can take part?
For 2010, we have set a limit of 2000 participants and we may include different sports with other venues and welcome suggestions and ideas for new sports in the future.

Is there a deadline for registration?
There isn’t a deadline for registration but there is a limit on the total number of participants and these are filled on a first come first served basis. A number of reserved places will be available through our nominated Charities and details about this places will be released shortly.

When I enter, what will I get?
You will need to enter before the 1st July 2010, you will receive a Blue Mile welcome pack which will include a personal entry number, goody bag and a sponsorship pack.

Can I organise/complete my own Blue Mile and raise money for Charity
Yes in the future you will be able to register and set up your own account and fund raising page on the Blue Mile website and organise your own event at any time of the year. All we ask is that you keep us informed about your event so that we can promote it through the Blue Mile website. We will notify you once this is set up.

Fundraising questions

Where will the money I raise go?
If you choose to raise money for a charity, the money you raise will go directly to that charity. We’d like to know how much you raise in total, so that we can tally this up after the event.

How will the Blue Mile support my fund raising?
We will provide you with a sponsorship pack, your own company event page on our website and we will register participants so you don’t have to. We will also be providing
t-shirts and information to all participants to help you raise the profile of your entry.
