Blue Mile questions : FAQ's
Who can take part?
Everyone! The Blue Mile is all about giving people the chance to set themselves a personal challenge, to raise money and to have fun. Individuals don’t have to be an Olympic Gold Medallist to do a mile. From swimming novices to kayaking pros - the Blue Mile will cater for everyone and literally anyone can get involved.
Do I need specialist equipment or training?
To compete the mile, you will need to be able to swim and complete a basic safety and medical check. There are a number of sports, so you will need to ensure you are competent with the equipment that you want to use in the event. If you are a new-comer to the sport, you will need to provide some evidence or certification that you have attained the level required to undertake the specific activity.
Where will the Blue Mile take place?
The inaugural event will take place in Plymouth in July 2010. We are consulting with other host cities across the UK and look forward to announcing some additional venues in the near future.
Is there a limit on entries and sports that can take part?
For 2010, we have set a limit of 2000 participants across six chosen team and individual sports. We have also included a fun category to encourage people to design a natural powered craft capable of completing the mile course. In the future, we may include different sports with other venues and welcome suggestions and ideas for new sports in the future.
Is there a deadline for registration?
Yes, for The Blue Mile 2010, the deadline for registration is 23rd June 2010.
