Making a difference
About half your carbon emissions are directly related to your transport and use of energy.
75% of energy used in your home is by space and water heating, so you can make a positive impact on both the climate and your bills by:
- Turning down your thermostat by 1 degree
- Setting timers for boilers and water heaters
- Installing insulation, double glazing and draught proofing
- Inserting aluminium foil behind the radiators
- Replacing old boilers
The remaining 25% of energy is used through appliances. We can save £255m each year by not leaving DVD and VCR players on standby and using a low energy lightbulb uses only one quarter of the electricity of a conventional lightbulb.
There are some big ways to cut your carbon emissions which save you energy and money too. Check out these links for advice and tips on how you too can contribute to the health of our planet.
