dolphinOFFICIAL CHARITY PARTNER

WWF-UK is the official charity partner of The Blue Mile 2010 – Race for the Environment and will be working with our event partners to raise awareness of the threats facing our world’s oceans and the need to protect our seas.

wwfMonica Dolan, Sponsored Events Manager
at WWF-UK says:

“The Blue Mile is a fantastic opportunity to educate and inspire people to value our marine environment. The UK is blessed with 20,000km of coastline, and diverse marine life and habitats ranging from deep sea corals to harbour porpoises. However our seas are facing increasing pressures, and now, with the threat of climate change, it is more important than ever that we protect our marine biodiversity. By completing a Blue Mile, businesses, schools, and individuals can show they care about our oceans and help raise crucial funding to support WWF’s conservation projects.”

OverviewOVERVIEW

The Blue Mile – Race for the Environment is the UK’s newest mass-participation event designed to get the nation immersed in our wonderful watery environment and encourage everyone to take some steps to look after it.

The 1st Edition of The Blue Mile was a two-day event which ran over the weekend of 3rd-4th July 2010, packed with entertainment and activities for everyone to enjoy. As well as the swim, SUP and kayak racing events there was an exciting Experiential Village with masses to see and do, live music was provided by “Love in the Sound” and a number of “taster” events that allowed people of all ages and abilities to have a go at kayaking, sailing, stand up paddleboarding or sailing, so literally anyone could get involved – even the WWF Panda and the National Marine Aquarium Turtle!

The organisers are now working on an even bigger and better format for next year’s event. Watch this space with more news as it comes.
